Waterlinks
B7 - Grid reference SP078880
First record c1980
This name was coined for a part of the Heartlands redevelopment scheme in the late 1980s. Waterlinks was one of the earliest parts of the project, a Government initiative to regenerate decayed industrial areas to the east and north-east of the City Centre. Waterlinks now comprises a mix of small industrial and business units with hotels and housing.
Sited strategically on the Middle Ring Road between Nechells and Gosta Green, its name derives from its location along the Birmingham & Warwick Junction Canal and the Birmingham & Fazeley
Canal.
'White Curl' is a tall metal sculpture on the Middle Ring Road made by Suzi Gregory in 1993 and was designed to mark a gateway to Heartlands.
