First record: Wilks Green

Wilkes or Wilks Green derives from a family name plus green meaning 'common pasture'. The site is roughly that of the modern school of the same name, east of Rookery Road, north of Albert Road. The name is not in current use but for the school, and the district is part of Handsworth.
