Brunston Hill

B44 - Grid reference SP086946

Shown on the 1834 Ordnance Survey map, Brunston Hill rises north of the centre of Kingstanding; it is a lost name. The origin of this placenames is unknown but it may derive from an Anglo-Saxon personal name Old English meaning Brun, thus 'Brun's farm/ settlement' or from burna tun 'stream' + 'farm', or from Middle English brund meaning '(land) cleared by burning'. There is also an unattested word brun meaning ‘pig' which is found in placenames.
